… Surgeon, specialising in paediatric and adult congenital and acquired limb deficiency and deformity correction.
He graduated from St. Bartholomew’s Medical College, London in 1993. He undertook Basic Surgical Training on the Barts surgical rotation before his Orthopaedic Specialist Registrar training on the Royal London Hospital rotation. He undertook a paediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Great Ormond Street and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals, with a Masters Fellowship at the Ilizarov centre in Kurgan, Russia. He was appointed as a consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in 2005.
Mr Calder has published extensively in peer-review journals and written several book chapters covering a wide range of topics including limb lengthening and deformity correction techniques and optimisation of function following amputation. He is regularly invited to lecture in national and international meetings.
He is the current President of the British Limb Reconstruction Society and Associate Medical Director of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. His research interests remain in improving outcome following limb reconstruction procedures and raising professional standards in surgical practice.
