Just as his clinical practice, which is 100% in the public health care system in Denmark, his research deals with children, adolescents, and adults. JDR’s expertise with several kinds of lengthening nails, transport nails, as well as external ring fixators, equips him with the tools to deal with congenital deformities, acute traumatology, fracture-related infections, and non-unions.

His training includes, among others, short fellowships with Prof. Søren Kold and Knud Stenild, Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark; Prof. Nando Ferreira, Tygerberg Academic Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa; and Prof. Robert Rödl and Björn Vogt, Department of Children’s Orthopaedics, Deformity Reconstruction, and Foot Surgery, University Hospital of Münster, Germany. The latter has been formalized as an ongoing collaboration, including a recurrent Visiting Professorship, international journal clubs, and research projects since 2020. This aligns with JDR’s latest appointment as an honorary member of the German Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (DGOU), tying closer links between Scandinavia and Germany.

Other areas of JDR’s interest encompass medical education, particularly surgical simulation. He is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, currently supervising four PhD students and three research year students, as well as multiple interns, medical, and engineering students in research projects.
